V Nanammal is the oldest yoga teacher staying at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She was born in middle-class agriculture family and started learning yoga from her grandfather when she was 10 years old. She is 93 years old yoga teacher and still, she can bend forward and backward easily. Her body is very flexible. Nanammal is a perfect example to show benefits of yoga exercise.
Nannammal has been practicing yoga since her childhood. She never visited a hospital or never take medicines because she is totally fit and healthy due to the regular practice of yoga exercises. She teaches nearly 100 students every day at her house.
She gets up early in the morning at 4.30 am and goes to bed early in the night. Nannammal practice yoga with her students when she gets up in the morning and before going to bed.
In diet, she takes only pulses and cereal but avoids rice and non-veg.
At the age of 14, she won the contest for the “Silambattam” which is Indian weapon-based martial art. Till now she has won so many gold medals and trophies in different competition. Recently she won first prize at the national event for yoga in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
This 93 years old yoga teacher feels, due to lack of financial support from the government, peoples are not coming ahead to promote and learn this old yoga art.
