Pitta is an alkaline fluid which is produced by the liver. Pitta is the Sanskrit word which is known as bile. It is temporary stored in gallbladder and helps in the process of digestion, metabolism and maintaining body temperature.

What is Pitta Dosha?

According to Ayurveda pitta is made up of Agni (fire) and Jala (Water). The proper amount of pitta governs the temperature of the body, digestion, and metabolism. But when the level of pitta increases (Excess of pitta) it may lead to serious health issues. It is known as Pitta Dosha.

1. Lukewarm Water

Keep a habit of eating 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds (Jeera) with a glass of lukewarm water after having your lunch or dinner. Cumin is the popular home remedy to reduce pitta naturally and improve metabolism.

5. Ajwain for Pitta
According to Ayurveda, we should include Ajwain in our lunch. Ajwain is effective to calm down pitta and reduce gas. If it is not possible then have 1 teaspoon of ajwain with lukewarm water after lunch or dinner. If you will add a pinch of black salt then it will be more effective to reduce pitta and improve digestion.

6. Cold Milk
At night you can have cold milk which is effective to reduce acidity quickly.

7. Amla (Indian Gooseberry)
It is effective to calm pitta naturally which is one of the best home remedies for pitta. You can have one Amla fruit a day. Amla reduces pitta, acidity and improves the process of digestion. Or 1-2 teaspoons of amla with lukewarm water is everyday is effective to reduce pitta.

8. Banana to Reduce Pitta
Banana is full of potassium which is effective to calm down the production of stomach acid and fiber of banana improve the process of digestion. Hence always include banana in your meal.

9. Elaichi (Velchi) Cardamom
Another best home remedy to reduce pitta or acidity is Velchi (Elaichi). After having your meal keep habit of eating Elaichi. Take one Elaichi and eat slowly to mix saliva of mouth with it. Elaichi is the best home remedy to improve digestion and reduce pitta. Also, it is effective to reduce bad breath.

10. Cloves (Laung)
With Elaichi you can have clove after having a meal. It is effective to improve digestion, production of saliva and relieve gases. Press 1-2 cloves under your teeth and keep it for 10-15 minutes. Do not swallow the juice of cloves immediately. This way it helps to reduce pitta.

How to Reduce Pitta Dosha

If you are suffering from pitta dosha then you must avoid that food which increases pitta.

  • If possible do not eat spicy and hot food.
  • Avoid late night eating.
  • Do not skip breakfast.
  • Decide your time of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Avoid eating any time.
  • Avoid tea and coffee
  • Include cow ghee in your meal.
  • Avoid sour fruits.
  • Do not drink water while having your meal or right after meal. Drink water 1 hour after your meal.
  • Drink more water and keep yourself hydrated.
